This song is terrible – a Disney musical number set to a pummelling dance beat – but old Taylor really knows how to paint a picture. Yes, her preoccupation with storybook romance is insipid and she is leading a generation of American tweenagers on some unfulfilling Cinderella-inspired goosechase, but she is really talented in using her few words to maximum, broadly understood emotional effect. I’m serious. Line after line, punch-punch-punch, like a well-oiled machine. Like a well-oiled machine for stupid, middle class feelings that rhyme.
