Dust off your best heels, queens, because Hella Queen: The Horror House of Diesel is haunting Section 8 on 31 October.

Hella Queen: The Horror House of Diesel is the fifth annual edition of the Halloween party presented by Section 8, and for the third year in a row, it’s being hosted by House of Diesel — a kiki house based in Naarm.

The night celebrates the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC ballroom scene in the city, and it has become a regular fixture for the venue’s staff, residents and wider community.

We’re talking ballroom categories with prizes up for grabs, DJ sets and live performances.

Guests are encouraged to dress up, with a prize going to the best dressed on the night, so it’s time to raid the wardrobe and go all out.

Hella Queen: The Horror House of Diesel

The space will be decked out in spooky decor with cinematic visuals running throughout, and there’s a spooky makeup booth, pumpkin donuts and drink specials for anyone who needs a breather.

Organisers have just announced four HELLA CATs; LIPSYNC, BEST DRESSED, BOOTY ME DOWN and HANDS PERFORMANCE, with judges Vixen Furia, Foxy 007 and Mystique Louboutin.

The line-up

Behind the decks are JULAI, Syrus, Sakidasumi, Nudibranchia, Aaliyah Salem, Alika, Bbsanii and Silva, with sets spanning r&b, baile funk, house, afro and vogue sounds.

The brief for the night is simple: get screaming, get shaking and get moving in your pumps.

Meet House of Diesel

House of Diesel was founded by JULAI, who is also on the DJ bill and is a regular Hella Queen performer.

He built the house around Samoan principles, staying connected to his cultural roots, with versatility on stage at the heart of the family.

The collective focuses on performance, fashion and nightlife, and it has recently sold out a run of performances, balls and workshops around the city.

The night is backed by event partners Hop Nation and Teremana Tequila.
