Nunawading’s The Round is the comedy capital of Melbourne’s east this autumn

The Round
words by staff writer

The Round in Nunawading is serving up a season of world-class comedy this autumn, and you won't need to leave the east side to catch it.

Between rising costs, a packed news cycle, and the general chaos of modern life, there’s never been a better time to book a night out and just laugh. The Round has put together a comedy season running from April through to June, covering everything from sharp international stand-up to musical comedy, personal storytelling, and a camping trip gone spectacularly wrong.

Five shows, one neighbourhood venue, and zero reasons to deal with city parking.

Kicking things off is Stephen K Amos: Now We’re Talking on 19 April, part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Fresh off a cameo in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and a stint surviving the jungle on I’m A Celebrity Australia, Stephen K Amos is back in Australia with a brand-new hour of no-filter, rapid-fire wit. Known to Australian audiences from Spicks and Specks, Thank God You’re Here, and Good News Week, Amos has the kind of charismatic stage presence that makes a room full of strangers feel like old mates inside of five minutes.

Three days later, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow 2026 rolls in for what is shaping up to be the biggest night of the season.

Leading the charge is Zoe Coombs Marr, Barry Award winner and creator of the ABC iView documentary series Queerstralia, whose show Bossy Bottom picked up a Herald Angel Award in Edinburgh and landed on Amazon Prime Video.

She’s joined by multi-award-winning British stand-up Carl Donnelly, Malaysian comedian and razor-sharp storyteller Kuah Jenhan, MICF Best Newcomer Award winner and actual medical doctor Noah Szto, and Palawa comedian Tarsh Jago, whose cheeky, quick-witted stage presence has been turning heads on the festival circuit.

Five acts, one night, over two hours of laughs; the Roadshow has been bringing festival-quality comedy to local audiences for nearly three decades, and this lineup is among its strongest.

In May, Comedy at The Round launches a brand-new ongoing showcase series curated by veteran comedy programmer Janet A McLeod. The debut instalment features headliner Kirsty Webeck, a gifted, upbeat storyteller with a devoted following and a Pomeranian named Joan who is also, somehow, something of a celebrity.

In support is Jude Perl, a multi-award-winning musical comedian who wraps scathingly honest, stream-of-consciousness lyrics in soaring vocals over cheery piano. Hosting is Annie Louey, a quick-witted presenter and comedian who has appeared on Australian Story and started winning national comedy competitions at the age of 16. With future lineups already in the works, this is a series worth getting into early.

LEHMO: Camper Van Go!

June brings two more reasons to get out of the house. First up, LEHMO arrives with Camper Van Go!, a hilarious, sold-out festival hit about a family holiday that goes completely off the rails.

Think marriage, parenting, dogs, and the Titanic, all wrapped up in an hour of tight, expertly crafted comedy from one of Australia’s most experienced touring comedians. Recommended for ages 16 and up, it’s a great one for families with teenagers or a solid night out with mates.

Anh Do: The Happiest Refugee Live

Closing out the season is Anh Do: The Happiest Refugee Live, a show that combines stand-up with personal stories, photos, and filmed pieces to bring Anh Do’s bestselling memoir to life on stage.

Warm, funny, and genuinely moving, it’s the kind of show that leaves an audience walking out feeling better about the world. Suitable for children aged 7 and up.
