Cry Club headline Northcote Social Club's New Year's Eve celebration.
Melbourne’s favourite queer pop-punk duo Cry Club are ringing in the new year at Northcote Social Club on 31 December. Expect theatrical chaos, heartfelt politics, and the kind of cathartic dancefloor moments that’ve made them one of the city’s most beloved live acts.
Cry Club comprises vocalist Heather Riley and guitarist Jono Tooke, who formed the band in Wollongong in 2018 after Riley wanted to start a Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure cover band. The pair have since relocated to Melbourne and released two studio albums: God I’m Such a Mess (2020) and Spite Will Save Me (2023).

The duo became triple j Unearthed’s most-streamed artist of 2019 with their single DFTM, a song about people not respecting physical boundaries at concerts. Their debut album earned them nominations for Best Independent Punk Album or EP at the 2021 AIR Awards and Best Breakthrough Act at the 2021 Music Victoria Awards.
Their 2025 has included a European tour where they played shows across Germany, from Berlin to Bavaria, and the release of new single This, Forever. NME called their second album brash, dramatic and camp, but also beautiful and empowering. The NYE show wraps up their This, Forever Australian tour, which has taken them through Adelaide, Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane.
