Somebody Else, Jamieson’s critically acclaimed debut solo album, marked a new chapter in his musical journey, blending his legacy as the frontman of Australian alternative icons Grinspoon with a fresh infusion of rock and pop sensibilities. The album, which took years in the making, saw Jamieson collaborating with talents like Holy Holy’s Oscar Dawson, Davey Lane, Jordan Power, and Ben Rosen to bring his solo vision to fruition.
Jamieson, no stranger to live performances and extensive touring, has been on the road extensively in 2023. He not only embarked on solo appearances but also participated in the sold-out White Album concert tour alongside fellow Australian stalwarts Chris Cheney, Tim Rogers, and Josh Pyke. Before he transitions to a more intimate setting for the Nobody Else Tour, he will close out this year with a sold-out national Grinspoon tour supported by Private Function.
During this upcoming tour, fans can expect a night of original music, along with a raw, fun, and emotionally charged peek behind the curtain.
Jamieson hints, “The setlist will have rearranged songs for this particular format. After the exploration that Grinspoon have done on Easy and New Detention, I may play some deep cuts of those records. I’m also looking forward to road-testing some new material that I have been working on for my sophomore solo joint.”
The stripped-back Nobody Else Tour will feature tracks from Somebody Else, never-before-heard solo material from Jamieson, and highlights from his illustrious past. These reimagined arrangements are specifically crafted by Jamieson for the intimate venues on the tour. The inclusion of Milton Theatre, mentioned in the title track of Somebody Else, adds a poetic touch to the tour’s journey.
Jamieson, hailing from Lismore, burst onto the music scene when Grinspoon won triple j Unearthed’s national band competition in 1995. The band’s debut album, Guide To Better Living, released in 1997, became a groundbreaking success, spending 36 weeks in the ARIA Top 50 and achieving double-platinum certification. Grinspoon’s journey has been legendary, with numerous Top Ten charting albums, ARIA Award wins and nominations, and iconic performances at festivals like Big Day Out, Homebake, Falls Festival, and Splendour In The Grass.
Through it all, Jamieson’s nuanced performances and songwriting prowess have continued to evolve, as seen in his starring role as St. Jimmy in the Australian production of the Broadway musical American Idiot.
The Nobody Else Tour, featuring Melbourne artist Robert Muiños, is an opportunity to witness Phil Jamieson in an exceptionally intimate setting, celebrating Somebody Else and much more.
