60 Seconds With… The Velocettes

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

I’m John and I play guitar in The Velocettes.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

A strange blend of surf, garage and psych rock.

What do you love about making music?

I love the fact that when you play music with other people in a band, the energy or vibe or whatever you want to call it is always different every time you pick up your instrument and start playing. It never gets boring.

What do you hate about the music industry?

I don’t hate anything about it, it is what it is. Certainly there were things to hate about the music industry of old but that time has gone. If I could change one small thing, it would be to ban Carlton Draught from band riders and replace it with good beer!

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

I’d probably have to set the time machine for 1966 and go to San Francisco, find the office of Bill Graham and play him our songs so that he could put us on one of those incredible bills at The Fillmore.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

Sting would be the obvious choice, so I’ll go with Morrissey!

What can a punter expect from your live show?

At our launch there will be plenty of rock ‘n’ roll, projections, special guests, and hopefully some folks losing it on the dancefloor as the night wears on.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

We have 10” vinyl and downloads available from gretsonrecords.com

When’s the gig and with who?

This Saturday November 26 at the Old Bar. We’re stoked to have Plague Doctor and Ferry Tails also on the bill.
