60 Seconds With… Slub

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

Slub. I play guitar, cello, synth, percussion and, when appropiate, dead man. I also sing, usually in a fantasy language, coz people usually don’t understand my heavily accented English anyway.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

I’ve heard people say: splendid, charming, monstrous, violent, revolutionary What do you love about making music? I would say the universe one enters, the dreamlike state of being when one strikes the right chord with one self, one’s fellow musos and one’s audience. The oneness sound can create. I for one am into that.

What do you hate about the music industry?
The industry.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

Johnny Cash, of course. If he would like it and cover one of our tunes we would be extremly honoured.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
Hmm. There are so many. I would rid the world of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Do you think I’d get the Nobel Peace Price for that?

What can a punter expect from your live show?
Maximum satisfaction in more than one way. A trip to hell and back… to hell.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
This is our first CD release. We’ve done quote a few vinyl and cassette releases, both coming back in fashion again, so we are just bridging that phase in audio history with what’s fashionable. Next year we’ll release an anthology of all the other vinyl and tape stuff, the compleat Slub works, so to speak.

When’s the gig and with who?
Saturday November 26 at the grand Thornbury Theatre. We are excited to have Harry Howard & NDE plus Cuba Is Japan on the bill to support us. Variety is the spice of life.

Anything else to add?

Come early! Cuba Is Japan and Harry Howard & NDE are great and not be missed. The night kicks off at 8pm. I should add that we’ll have visual artist Dean McInerney projecting slubbish and abstract images upon us while we play. This should ensure a trip into the Unknown. A bit like The Magical Mystery Tour gone terribly wrong. Perhaps we should call it the Magical Misery Tour. Makes you think, dunnit? Thank you.
