60 Seconds With…Howqua

Tell us a little bit about what you do.

The project it called HOWQUA and at this point it’s a solo show. I sing, play guitar, keys and a bit of stompbox.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

Vocally my range has been compared to a bit of an Eddie Vedder meets Bon Iver mix-up. There are loud intense bits but also softer more delicate moments.

What do you love about making music?

I love expressing myself as honestly as possible and sharing an inner thought that can only really be explained through lyrics. I love the discovering different noises that can be created to represent different feelings while mucking around on an instrument.

What do you hate about the music industry?

Having to always find ways to earn enough money to support the project independently while finding enough time to give it what it deserves.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

I’d love to see Jim Morrison at a show just hanging out up the back sipping on a whiskey. Seeing videos of The Doors live has inspired me to really lose myself more in the moment on stage and it would be pretty rad to share that with him.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

A mix bag of light and dark. There will be a bunch of intensity but also some chilled moments.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

I still have a few copies left of my debut EP Naked left that are up for grabs.
