60 Seconds With…Bella Wolf

Who are we speaking to and what do you do in Bella Wolf?

My name’s Erica Tucceri, and I’m a jazz flute player. I co-founded Bella Wolf with drummer Tommy Harrison, and also write most of the tunes.

You’ve performed in Indonesia, and played at St Kilda Festival. How did you secure these spots without a release?

I received an award from Future Leaders who scouted me through uni. They sent us to the Ubud Village Jazz Festival. It was amazing – our stage was in the middle of a rainforest, and the crowd loved it. We got St Kilda Fest off the back of that.

You’re performing a fresh take on jazz, featuring elements of latin, pop, rock and groove. How has this sound come together?

We grew up listening to pop and rock music but all went to jazz school. It’s a natural fusion of those elements. Our sound’s always developing, which you’ll see at the launch. Our album’s instrumental, but now our trumpeter’s getting into electronics, I’ve started doing singing gigs, and we’re playing with a mad guitarist.

Bella Wolf formed back in 2014. What were your original goals and are your current goals the same?

My goal has always been to play my own music with people I like, to people who like us. Once that started happening, other goals came up, like pushing to record an album, and lining up some national tours.
