So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?
The band is ‘Aphra’s Cat’ and I’m Lara Stevens – the co-harmonist and guitarist.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like?
Riot grrl rock with a splash of Edgar Allen Poe.
What do you love about making music?
The feeling of soaring when multiple harmonies come together.
What do you hate about the music industry?
The pressure on talented women who think they need to get their gear off in video clips and at the Super Bowl.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
It would be only a short trip back in time to Nina Gordon in the early ’90s at the height of Veruca Salt powers, to convince the band to stay together and work with Bob Rock to take over the world with Aphra’s Cat as touring partners.
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
Kylie Minogue – because dancing and a great costume designer doesn’t equal good
music.
What can a punter expect from your live show?
The upcoming launch includes MC Hedger’s music trivia with prizes as well as a guest wailer guitarist and lots of sweet harmonies mixed with dirty riffs from the Cat.
What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
Our first full-length album When Princes At My Feet Did Lie and our EP 1640.

Sunday March 11 (Labour Day Weekend) at Yah Yah’s on Smith St, Fitzroy with Mr. Jimmy and The Grenadines. Doors at 8.30pm.
