This year’s Splendour In The Grass was accompanied by a mission from Green Music Australia and Positive Change For Marine Life to clean up Byron Bay’s Seven Mile Beach which saw the cleanup team bagging 12kg of rubbish.

A team of musicians, including Áine Tyrrell, Luke Henery of Violent Soho, Tay Oskee, Sahara Beck, Emma Bosworth and The Cutaways, were joined by festival-goers on Saturday of the SITG weekend for an hour-long beach cleanup, in which time 2435 pieces of rubbish were collected.

“So far this year the team from Positive Change for Marine Life has collected over 1000 single-use plastic items on Byron’s local beaches, including straws, cups, cutlery & plastic bottles – all of which have quick and easy alternatives,” said Positive Change for Marine Life Campaign Coordinator Zoe White. “Eliminatingeverydayy single use items such as coffee cups, drink bottles and straws is one of the easiest and most beneficial steps we can make to create a change.”
