Aussie pop-rock legends Zoot have cancelled their Australian reunion tour, which was supposed to feature a Melbourne Palais Theatre show.
Zoot have cancelled their tour with no new dates due to the band member’s careers abroad, after their original dates were postponed due to the pandemic restrictions.
They stated in a release that “much has changed in the two years since we announced the tour, and individual members of the band, whilst excited about the potential offered by the tour, are now unfortunately not in a position whereby they can move forward with the tour as scheduled. Rather than postpone the tour yet again, the decision has been taken to cancel the tour and refund all ticketholders.”

While there’s still a lot of people that remember the group’s rocking cover of Eleanor Rigby, in the modern age, Zoot are mainly known through the breakaway success of the group’s former members. First and foremost frontman Rick Springfield, who left Australia for the USA in 1972 after forging his early career through the band.
Springfield, who most famously hit with US number-one ‘Jessie’s Girl’ in 1981, is one of Australia’s most successful musical exports, so much so that many Australians have no idea he’s from New South Wales.
Zoot also forged the path for the group’s bass guitarist, Beeb Birtles, who went on to found another massive Australian musical success story, Little River Band, in 1975, and the band helped launch the career of Russell Morris – best known for classic Australian anthem ‘The Real Thing’ – among a plethora of ARIA top ten hits. Drummer Rick Brewer also went on to play with The Ferrets and The Motivaters.
Zoot last reunited for a Rick Springfield cruise back in 2011. While they left open the possibility of touring at some stage in the future, current tickholders will be contacted to organise a refund.
