The winners of the 35th St Kilda Film Festival were announced over the weekend, with Daniel Agdag and Liz Kearney taking out the award for the 2018 Best Short Film.

Their film, Lost Property Office, is a nine-minute stop-motion animation, which originally premiered at last year’s Melbourne International Film Festival.

Simon Direen took out the Best Documentary award for his work A Life Together, which is now eligible for the OSCARS Documentary Shorts category.

Other prize winners included Coat of Arms by Dylan River and Warwick Thornton for Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Achievement in Indigenous Filmmaking, plus Mrs Mutcheon scored wins for John Sheedy as Best Director, and Wesley Pattern for Best Young Actor. Jill Robinson and Tara Wise took home the award for Best Youth Short Film, with their ten-minute documentary Don’t Call Me Beautiful

It was an especially good year for women in the industry, with 40 female directors and 56 female producers making up the overall 100 selection of short films.
