Where one door closes: What’s on at The Bergy Bandroom this August

WORDS BY KALANI GIDDEY

As some of you may know, the front bar at the Bergy Seltzer held its last performance last month.

Fret not, however, for where one door closes, another (or several in this case) opens. Though the front bar may never have another band play its bandbox in the foreseeable future, there’s no reason why the show can’t go on elsewhere, which is awfully convenient considering that the Bergy has both a beer garden AND a bandroom, perfect for all your needs in recreation, musical enjoyment and assorted scallywaggery.

There’s no use in having a bandroom if you’ve not got any bands to fill it either, right? Well, you’re in for another surprise then, because the folks at the Bergy have done just that! Booked in a killer lineup that is, and boy is it a lineup to behold: a lineup so chock full to the brim with talent, so heavy with cool, that it’s quite honestly set to burst. And to be quite honest, we think you should get down to the Bergy and take a look for yourself.

You won’t be able to find a reason to regret it, trust me, we’ve tried. Get amongst it!

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

They’ve got quite the lineup in store, featuring old friends and some new ones too. Fair warning for any would-be warriors, however, as this one’s going to get heavy, and boy will it be loud. Leading the pack is SAN, an eclectic four-piece that draws influence from all over, distilling post-rock, shoegaze and doom into something entirely new, leading audiences on journeys down ever-spiralling sonic paths and melodies. • Friday, August 23rd
  • w/ Ebi Nori + the Phantom Fingers & Shadow Tussle
  • Get tickets here.

It’s going to be a big one on the 23rd, when the only band to be featured both on our lists and those of the Victoria Police simultaneously take over the Bergy for one night only. Our two favourite degenerates have been cooking up quite the storm for us, and they think it’s finally ready to be released to the public in the form of their highly anticipated EP White Heat – White Noise! These two never cease to keep raising the bar when it comes to the sheer amount of noise two people can make, and boy is it quite a sight to behold. Supported by friends Ebi Nori and the Phantom Fingers and Shadow Tussle, everything is in good hands. We hope. Can’t be too sure.

Chaos Divine

  • Friday, August 30th
  • Guests TBA
  • Get tickets here.

One of Perth’s best-kept secrets is making its way to the East Coast this August, and as much as we’d like to keep things a little hush-hush, we just had to let you know that Chaos Divine will be making a stop at the Bergy for one night only. So rarely does a band like this come around, a band that has carved out its own niche within melodic progressive metal, a band that has mastered the art of blending technicality and emotion. It’s quite like teaching a robot how to feel love, but these guys have made it look effortless, moving between sections and soaring solos with an intimidating ease.
