Wheatus celebrate 25 years of Teenage Dirtbag with Australian tour

Words by staff writer

Wheatus mark the 25th anniversary of Teenage Dirtbag with their first-ever New Zealand shows in January 2026.

American rock band Wheatus will perform their iconic self-titled debut album in full across Australia and New Zealand next year. The tour celebrates a quarter-century since the release of their timeless anthem Teenage Dirtbag, a song that somehow continues to grow in popularity despite being released back in 2000.

Recent years have seen an unexpected resurgence for Wheatus and their signature track. TikTok’s viral Teenage Dirtbag photos trend has attracted over a million participants, including celebrities like Madonna, Lady Gaga and Jon Bon Jovi. Meanwhile, the hashtag #teenagedirtbag has racked up over two billion views across social platforms.

Pop culture has embraced the track once again, with Teenage Dirtbag appearing in Netflix’s Big Mouth and Disney’s Cruel Summer. Most remarkably, the song re-entered the UK Top 40 charts in 2023 – more than two decades after its original release.

This renewed popularity has led Wheatus to share stages with Alice Cooper, Blondie, Muse, Jack White, Blink-182 and Paramore. Following a massive 47-date UK and Ireland tour in 2023 and a Download UK performance to 20,000 people in 2024, the band recently completed sold-out tours across the USA and UK with Bowling For Soup.

Beyond performing their debut album nightly, Wheatus will take requests from fans for deep cuts from their three-decade career – a tradition they’ve maintained at headline shows for almost 20 years.

Presale tickets are available Wednesday 3 September from 9am AEST/NZ until Thursday 4 September at 8am AEST/NZ. General public tickets go on sale Thursday 4 September at 9am local time.
