Weezer, Third Eye Blind and Fountains of Wayne: one bill, six arenas

Words by staff writer

Weezer: The Gathering brings Third Eye Blind and Fountains of Wayne here

Weezer: The Gathering opens at Perth’s RAC Arena on 24 February, then heads through Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before wrapping at Auckland’s Spark Arena on 7 March. Melbourne gets its night at Rod Laver Arena on 28 February. It’s the first time in 14 years Weezer have brought a full headline show to Australia. Their most recent visit was a slot on the 2025 Good Things lineup.

The band formed in Los Angeles in 1992 and broke through two years later with their self-titled debut, the one everyone calls the Blue Album, which gave the world Buddy Holly and Say It Ain’t So. Since then Rivers Cuomo and co have put out 20 studio albums, won a Grammy and sold more than 35 million records. Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun and Beverly Hills all came later, along with detours into orchestral pop on OK Human and metal on Van Weezer. This year’s Weezer (Gold) leans into songs about getting older as a band.

Third Eye Blind started out in San Francisco in 1993 and hit big in 1997 with a self-titled debut carrying Semi-Charmed Life and Jumper. Seven albums later, the latest being 2021’s Our Bande Apart, the band haven’t played Australia since 2011. Auckland will be their first ever New Zealand show.

Fountains of Wayne took the long way back. The power-pop band went mainstream with 2003’s Welcome Interstate Managers, and its single Stacy’s Mom reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination. After six albums the group drifted apart in 2013, and co-founder Adam Schlesinger died in 2020. They returned to the stage in 2025. This run marks their first Australian shows since 1999, plus their New Zealand debut.

Presales start on 4 November, with Weezer fan club members up at 9am local time and a Destroy All Lines presale following at 10am. Venue and ticketing presales open at 9am on 5 November, and general sale kicks off at 9am on 6 November.
