Video Premiere: Owen Rabbit unveils sprawling, live-looping magic with ‘Red Light’

“Red Light is a track that just missed out on my EP,” says Rabbit. “The song is about only playing as a spectator and the weird feeling I get when I think my choices are illusions. After the song, there is a story I wrote about a sad man who dreams of people dying”

Owen Rabbit uses rubbish, toys, bottles and matches like instruments, along with swirling lush synths, beats and vocals to create textured, haunting music.

“I perform with a loop pedal and it helps me build up layers of the tracks with my instruments and also trinkets and toys I’ve collected which make cool sounds,” he says. “When I play my song Kalgoorlie I ask the crowd to help me to sing what becomes the backdrop to the track.

“It feels really cool when the room sound gets incorporated into the performance. Performing electronic music can sometimes feel canned and stifled and I try really hard to bring it to life.”
