A historic Victorian venue is to undergo extensive renovation under new family ownership, with backing from the Victorian government.
Macedon Tea Rooms will soon undergo a significant refurbishment to create a spectacular dining experience atop Mount Macedon, thanks to support from the Victorian government.
The Benito Family Pty Ltd has secured the new lease for the iconic venue, bringing fresh vision to the local landmark. Their plans include an expanded outdoor seating area showcasing the panoramic views, evening dining options, and dedicated spaces for events and functions on the 1,000-metre-high mountain peak.

The family-owned business brings extensive hospitality experience, having operated restaurants and hotels both nationally and internationally. During the renovation period, which begins in the coming weeks, visitors will still be able to purchase refreshments from a mobile coffee van at the site.
The original Macedon Tea Rooms opened in 2000, replacing a previous structure that was destroyed during the devastating Ash Wednesday bushfires of 1983. The venue sits within Macedon Regional Park, which attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually.
The redevelopment coincides with the Allan Labor Government’s $810,000 investment to upgrade the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve. This landmark serves as the site for the region’s annual Anzac Day dawn service and remains a popular destination for tourists throughout the year.
Macedon Regional Park offers visitors a diverse range of outdoor activities beyond the dining experience, including bushwalking, horse riding, cycling, picnicking and rock climbing, all set against spectacular natural scenery.
The Macedon Tea Rooms project represents a significant boost for local tourism, with the renovated venue expected to attract even more visitors to the region when it reopens in late 2025. The focus on showcasing local produce aligns with growing interest in regional food tourism.
The Mount Macedon location, with its elevation and surrounding landscapes, provides a unique setting that distinguishes the venue from other dining establishments in Victoria. The refurbishment aims to maximise this natural advantage while preserving the character that has made the tea rooms a beloved destination.
