Vaporwave icon George Clanton is set for his first-ever Australian tour

George Clanton
words by kaya martin

The multi-talented musician and 100% Electronica label founder has locked a run of shows this June.

Armed with a vintage mixer, a reverb-drenched guitar and a cult following, one of LA’s most exciting electronic artists will be making his way down under for the first time ever.

Presented by Sydney underground favourites Wavyland and his own label 100% Electronica, George Clanton will be bringing his signature brand of nostalgic pop through to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland.

George Clanton’s work is purely his own. Fusing vaporwave, trip-hop and dream pop, he previously released music under the pseudonyms Mirror Kisses and ESPRIT 空想 before dropping his debut album under his own name in 2015.

The release, titled 100% Electronic, featured the earworm singles It Makes The Babies Want To Cry and Keep It A Secret and captured the attention of critics and fans alike. His following album, Slide, received much critical acclaim from both niche vaporwave listeners and the wider public.

Throughout the Covid-19 lockdown, Clanton fostered a dedicated online community through his Virtual Utopia Twitch live streams. They gave listeners a place to connect and share music during a difficult time.

Clanton’s most recent release, a surprising collaboration with 3/11 frontman Nick Hexum, took a slightly different turn from his previous work. It fused his signature sun-drenched production with Hexum’s reggae-esque vocals bars.

He’ll be fresh off a tour with the ethereal alt-pop superstar Caroline Polachek when he makes his way over in June. Known for delivering a high-energy and heartwarming live show, George Clanton is not to be missed on his Australian debut.
