Triangle, circle, square… cross?
In news that no-one was expecting to read this morning, it appears that everyone has been pronouncing the ‘X’ button on the PlayStation controller incorrectly this whole time.
Taking to Twitter, PlayStation UK made the case for not calling it the ‘X’ button, but the ‘cross’ button instead.
“If Cross is called X (it’s not), then what are you calling Circle?” the unnamed social media manager wrote.
Triangle
Circle
Cross
SquareIf Cross is called X (it's not), then what are you calling Circle?🤔 https://t.co/dvQ19duemW

Honestly, the argument kind of stacks up; why would we use a shape for three buttons and then a letter for the fourth? Consistency is key, people.
But, we also recognise that language is an ever-evolving organism and we live in a democracy. PlayStation seems to have acknowledged this too when its subsequent poll resulted in an overwhelming majority voting for ‘X’. Which of you sick bastards voted for “+ rotated 45°”?
What do you call it?

Anyway, you won’t be able to un-think this line of logic now. Every time you pick up a PlayStation controller, you’ll remember how your world was shaken up by this insignificant fact. Soon, you’ll join the Cross Chorus. It’s only a matter of time.
