Ghost Gums – Jamie Hutchings: We were in a room with wooden floorboards and a high ceiling. The reverberation sort of fed this one.
Little City – Peter Fenton: The cradle song. The first one that we wrote together but then lost for about a year.
The Road Is Long – PF: A song I wrote in the grips of grief and shock of losing someone I worked with for a few years, who I talked to most days. Jamie pushed me to sing this harder, to grind it out like a sideshow spruiker. Sensitive junkyard feel captured here, I am sure he would of loved it. Bugger
Was WithHer – PF: In this I play a desert car mechanic mystic and deliver it like I imagine Don Walker would. Jamie delivers his words with such bled soul distortion.
Weathervane – PF: I wrote the basic idea on a ukulele given to me by someone special and then we fleshed it out, Jamie adding in beautiful guitar and structures. I’m really drawn to the filmic qualities in both mood and the story we came up with
Buyer Beware – JH: Classic Fenton, it swings sweetly.
Nothing to Show – JH: This song puts me in a room full of mirrors, some of them a little cracked.
The Two O’Clock – PF: I had the music for this for a while but wasn’t sure what to do with it. JH turned it into something very special, writing narrative I find evocative and dusty.
