American singer-songwriter Tony Joe White has passed away at age 75. The announcement comes shortly after White cancelled his Australian tour which was set to take place this month.
With a career spanning over half a century, his latest album Bad Mouthin’ released just last month, White’s music has served as a staple within the Americana, country and blues scenes. His tracks ‘Polk Salad Annie’ and ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’ thrust him into the limelight in the late ’60s, cementing him as an Americana icon. White’s original tracks have been covered by the likes of Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Tina Turner and Foo Fighters – a true testament to his legendary status and incredible songwriting.
