Melbourne pop artist Tomato Sauce drops his fourth studio single Fabulous on Wednesday 16 July.

“It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous
than absolutely boring…”

Tomato Sauce is bringing back the strut with his latest single, Fabulous, marking the fourth studio release from the vibrant Melbourne artist. The upbeat, feel-good pop song – packed with dancefloor crossover potential – serves as both celebration and protest, encouraging listeners to reject societal norms and embrace their authentic selves.

The artist, whose real name is Tom McKinnon, describes Fabulous as an anthem for anyone tired of conforming to expectations. “Honestly, I was just so sick of society telling me how I should be living my life. I don’t want to be ‘normal’. I want to be fabulous,” Tom says. The track features standout themes of defiance, self-acceptance and letting go, with an unmistakably queer sensibility (self-described as “incredibly gay”) that builds on the success of his 2024 debut single Party in Hell.

McKinnon’s journey to music began in the circus, where he worked as a performer throughout his early and mid-twenties before transitioning into songwriting. His talents were recognised in 2020 when he reached the top 40 in the Vanda & Young Global Song Competition for his track Hurdles, performed by Kiki Nicks.

The colourful artist has built Tomato Sauce as both a musical project and brand, launching apparel in 2025 featuring his signature man bag design. His previous single Party in Hell resonated strongly with the queer community for its relatable storytelling and energising attitude, establishing him as an emerging voice in Australian pop.

Fabulous captures the essence of refusing to blend into the crowd, with lyrics expressing a deep desire to form one’s own path rather than following prescribed routes. The song’s message centres on choosing to be fabulous rather than ordinary, making it an empowering anthem for self-expression.
