Exhibition breaks ticket sales for museum.
Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition is still waiting to hit the proverbial iceberg, but for now it’s Australia’s most popular museum exhibition ever.
Since opening in Melbourne on May 17 this year, the exhibition has sold over 333,000, trumping the A Day In Pompeii exhibit last year, which held the previous record for most tickets sold.
The exhibit showcases over 280 original artefacts rescued from the decaying ship, including perfume bottles, china and a piece of the ship’s hull.
The ‘unsinkable’ ship sunk in 1912 after striking an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean, some hundreds of miles off the coast of the northern USA. Since then much of the public have been fascinated with the history of this disaster, and the history of the people who lost their lives.
The exhibition has been extended to November 7 to meet an increasing demand for tickets.
