Bertie Blackman will draw inspiration from her artist father while locking herself away in the hotel of his namesake for the next eleven weeks to write her fourth studio album.
Berties father, Charles Blackman, made a name for himself in the late 1940’s as one of Australia’s most popular artists. Blackman, inspired by the work of Picasso, painted the infamous Alice in Wonderland series, which now line the halls of the Blackman Hotel. This hotel is one in a series of art deco themed hotels springing up around Melbourne, and which pay tribute to some of Australia’s most renowned artists. The Blackman, located in St Kilda, joins the ranks of The Olsen and The Cullen.
Bertie will be sharing her journey at The Blackman with the public while she writes her new album, with an online blog which will allow fans to follow her every step over the next eleven weeks, as she traipses around the hotel looking for inspiration and musings for her new album, which you can check out here.
She is already revelling in her surroundings and feeling enthused. “It’s inspiring and at the same time, a bit scary and overwhelming working here. But that’s a good thing because it pushes me to be the best I can be.”
