Thornbury To Get A Major New Live Music Venue?

Currently it still has live entertainment on the weekends with a suburban family vibe.

But Beat hears that a promoter associated with previous live music venues has struck a deal with owners to relaunch it in October as a weekly place where top acts will play and where crowds can check out rising names.

The Crox was one of the top Melbourne venues in the ’70s, where the likes of rising acts like the Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, Rose Tattoo and Little River Band would play. Its popularity with punters was its proximity to the railway station and lots of parking.

According to APRA AMCOS, the area now has one of the greatest number of songwriters residing. It is also where the Darebin Music Feast is held between October 23 to November 1 to celebrate its talent, music venues and legacy.

The Croxton Park Hotel has a fascinating history. It opened in April 1844 and was a well-known stopping place for gold prospectors moving up to Whittlesea and beyond.
