While Melbourne’s nightlife forges ahead, despite the freeze on post-1am liquor licenses being in play for ten years now, the closing of venues like Mercat Basement and impending closure of Hugs&Kisses is worrying. Fortunately, it looks like another old gem with an existing 24-hour license has been given a new lease on life. Dubbed ‘Yours&Mine’, the site on Queensberry St in Carlton was previously Illusion nightclub – the type of clubbing experience you’d more likely expect from Crown Casino. However, since the previous owner copped a $114k copyright infringement notice after blatantly ignoring the existence of APRA AMCOS, the space has sat mostly unused, aside from an unenthused rebrand attempt to psytrance parties under the name Dimension. Anyway, Nergal Youkhana of Charades and Mitchell Gee of Autosea will now be booking it, Full Throttle Entertainment (Pitch Festival, Rainbow Serpent) have done the audio fit-out and a who’s who of local promoters and artists are on board over the next few weeks. All the deets are on their Facebook page.

On Friday August 3, Ballarat boys Wax Nomads are throwing a little jaunt in The Sub Club called Waxology. Joining them will be fellow Ballarat producer/crate digger Daze and Lou Karsh, who’s just done a big run around Europe, including joining a Lobster Theremin showcase night at Berghain’s new Saule room. Karsh will be doing his hour-of-power live acid set that’s been creating buzz everywhere, while the others take on extended sets to take you through ‘til the early morn. Kicks off at 10pm.

This Saturday August 4, local producer Karli White is launching her new EP Trust, on Resistance Restraint records – their first release for 2018. Toying with genres like post-punk, dub and techno, White weaves her reverb-drenched vocals over sparse soundscapes punctured by percussive smatterings. To celebrate the occasion, they’re throwing a party in a secret location somewhere in Collingwood, with special guests Harold, Nerve with Kangaroo Skull, Cutting Room, Lichen Kelp and Deep Red. DM the event moderators on Facebook to get the exact location. KIcks off at 9pm.
