This new four-story Melbourne bar has a soundproof music room

Her music room

Her, an expansive four-story bar and rooftop in the old Pacific House building, offers a soundproof music room and a 3,000-strong record collection.

The American walnut walls and ceiling are perforated with small holes to mimic the appearance of a speaker box. Inside the sound-locked room, a bespoke KV2 sound system showcasing three SL1200 Technics Turntables and a custom-built Condesa Allegra XL Rotary Mixer is built into a sculptural timber console with a pleated finish.

In a fairly intimate space with seating for 32 guests and standing space for another 28, amber glass cabinets reveal the cables and tech that charge the room, while an 18 pigeonhole shelving display on the back wall, housing the expansive record collection.

The venue boasts a renowned music director, JNETT, who’s handpicked all 3,000 vinyls spanning genres from rare grooves to disco and beyond.

Guests can expect disco nights, touring DJ performances, Russian Roulette Vinyl parties, live streaming sets and more from local and international artists. Artists playing soon include P’Jenne, Prequel, Mike Gurrieri, Edd Fisher, Simon TK, Jamie Bennett, Crown Ruler and Skylab Radio.

“MUSIC ROOM will present an array of selectors every evening of the week,” JNETT says.

“From DJs and collectors that have dedicated most of their lifetime curating a collection, to the fresh, young newcomers that will showcase taste and knowledge as refined and dedicated as their peers.

“DJs from near and far, old and new, some famous and some unfamiliar. It is the first of its kind in Melbourne and there is no doubt your first experience here, won’t be your last.”
