There’s a massive reason to skip streaming and visit record stores in April

Record Store Day Australia returns on 18 April with a stacked first batch of local vinyl releases.

Empire of the Sun, Spacey Jane, Kee’ahn, Holy Holy, Crooked Colours, Ruel, Bluey and Kutcha Edwards with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra all feature in the 2026 lineup, celebrating independent record stores across the country.

Record Store Day underscores the tangible benefits of physical music retail over digital alternatives—human-driven discovery, intentional listening experiences and community support for artist development. These physical spaces facilitate intergenerational connections, from first-time vinyl buyers to seasoned collectors sharing knowledge.

Holy Holy’s inclusion holds particular weight—the band shares a vinyl debut of Sweet Bitter Sweet following their 2025 indefinite hiatus announcement. Originally released digitally, the pressing features five new songs alongside five reimagined versions of beloved tracks from their 14-year career.

Newcastle record store Hiss & Crackle contributes Live At Hiss & Crackle – Volume 1, a compilation of local acts recorded at their instore stage since 2019. Owner Mitchel Eaton says the release bottles both the physical experience of a record store and the energy of live instore performances, with a 100 percent locally sourced talent tracklist celebrating Newcastle’s thriving live music scene.

More Australian releases will be announced in coming weeks.
