Directed by Spike Lee, the critically-acclaimed Broadway show will come to our screens in October.

The first teaser for David Byrne’s forthcoming Spike Lee-directed concert film, American Utopia, has arrived, giving a 60-second glimpse of what’s to come.

Documenting Byrne’s monumental Broadway show of the same name, which ran from October 2019 until February 2020, American Utopia has been widely dubbed “the best musical experience on the planet”.

Featuring a band of 11 dancing musical artists, the performance is an impeccably-choreographed celebration of Bryne’s career to date featuring favourites such as ‘This Must Be the Place’ and ‘Blind’, as well as a cover of Janelle Monae’s ‘Hell You Talmbout’, which features in the trailer.

Not only is the film set to showcase the critically-acclaimed performance in full, but the musical numbers will be underscored by short monologues by Byrne in which he touches on a range of issues from police brutality to climate change.

The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before hitting HBO and HBO Max on October 17.
