The Presets drop album and tour dates; we all suffer immediate cardiac arrest

If you’re reading this over a cup of coffee or a bite of vegemite toast – spit that shit out, because Aussie electronic dance pioneers The Presets – actual magicians Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes – have announced that their fourth studio album Hi Viz will be dropped on May 18 via EMI Music Australia. If that’s not enough, this release will be followed by a national tour in June.

The duo’s return has been widely celebrated by Australia, shown in particular by ‘Do What You Want’ securing itself a spot on the 2017 triple j Hottest 100, and ’14U+14ME’ ranking in as one of triple j’s most played songs of 2018 so far. Obviously Australia wanted to dissociate from the steaming pile of garbage that was 2017, as Hamilton explains that all he and Moyes wanted to do was “make something that was literally meant to get you out of your head.”

While they admit that this album has a carefree element reminiscent of their early work, both Hamilton and Moyes have matured as musicians and producers. It is through multiple side-ventures that the duo has been able to attach names such as DMA’s, Alison Wonderland, Jake Shears, and John Haynes to Hi Viz. In terms of the album’s vibe, Moyes explains that to filter the 50 songs they’d written and recorded for the album, they eventually decided to “just pick the most up for it songs.”

So what does that mean? “We essentially [created] the soundtrack to a party that we would want to go nuts at,” confirms Hamilton.

The Hi Viz tour will feature special guest Roland Tings. We recommend you start a strict cardio regimen ASAP considering all of the rug-cutting you will no doubt be participating in at any and all of these performances.
