The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s 2018 Season has arrived

You’ll witness the MSO celebrating the centenary of acclaimed composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein across three massive concerts – including a special performance of West Side Story performed live to film. You’ll catch three gala performances featuring superstars of the classical music scene, and rarely performed choral masterpieces like Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius and Berlioz’L’Enfance du Christ.

Returning in 2018 is the Chinese New Year: East Meets West celebration, the summer Sidney Myer Free Concert Series, the toddler-friendly Jams for Juniors program and the ever-popular Harry Potter in concert event. If you’re after a day out with the family, the Orchestra’s collaborating with comedy legends Tripod and Circus Oz, as well as an original concert exploring the works of Roald Dahl in Dahlesque.

The much-lauded Mid-Season Gala features performances from legendary violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter (in her Melbourne debut with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto), James Ehnes and Maxim Vengerov, pianists Nelson Friere, Benjamin Grosvenor and Moye Chen, singers Eva-Maria Westbroek and Thomas Hampson, and guest conductors Karina Canellakis and Muhai Tang, among many other special guests.

The Melbourne Town Hall series will see four programs featuring Australian talent, including soprano Emma Matthews, violinist Harry Bennetts, pianists Andrea Lam and Piers Lane, and organist Calvin Bowman – and the new series MSO Mornings features the best repertoire in a shorter program at 11am on Fridays throughout the year.
