Fans of the ultimate 90s Christmas movie, Home Alone, are in for a treat this holiday season as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra brings the film back to the big screen with a live soundtrack.
Conducted by Nicholas Buc, the MSO and MSO Chorus will bring a symphonic dimension to this beloved film when they perform renowned composer John Williams’ score live to picture.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Home Alone tells the hilarious story of Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left behind when his parents (John Heard and Catherine O’Hara) leave for Christmas vacation. Kevin must defend his home against two bungling thieves (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern).
Written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus, Home Alone (1990) is one of the highest-grossing Christmas films of all time and made 10-year-old Macaulay Culkin a star. It was nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Original Score for the John Williams compositions. Williams has been nominated for 52 Academy Awards, making him the second most nominated individual after Walt Disney.
It’s really not Christmas without an annual screening of this absolute classic, and this certainly takes movie night to the next level.
Home Alone will be performed at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne on Wednesday 14 December and Thursday 15 December at 7.30pm.
