The Melbourne Queer Film Festival releases full program

Melbourne Queer Film Festival

Screening over 35 Australian films this year, MQFF is back in full swing.

Showcasing a range of boundary-pushing films from across the globe, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival highlights the best in local and international queer stories from queer storytellers.

They’ll be screening the Australian premiere of Blitzed, as well as the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader. The festival kicks off from November 10 with the opening night film Private Desert (2021) and will close on November 21 with Uýra: The Rising Forest (2022).

The Australian premiere of Blitzed! (2021) directed by Bruce Ashley and Michael Donald (UK) – tracing the evolution of the eponymous London nightclub through the eyes of club regulars Boy George, Princess Julia, Spandau Ballet and more.

Cult classic, But I’m a Cheerleader (1999) directed by Jamie Babbit (USA), is back with a director’s cut.  This is a seminal 90s satire that cannot be missed.

“The 32nd MQFF continues to bring the best of world queer culture to Melbourne and we couldn’t be happier that the Festival is returning in all its glory in 2022,” says MQFF CEO, David Harris.

“The entire MQFF program is full of diverse films which are stunning, emotional, beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious and boundary-pushing. We can’t wait to share all these films with our audiences.”
