Plus: win one of three Sirât soundtrack vinyls and a year's MUBI subscription.
Oliver Laxe’s desert road trip thriller Sirât is now streaming in Australia on MUBI, and it’s not your average missing-persons drama.
Sirât, the Oscar-nominated Spanish-French film from director Oliver Laxe, follows a father and son as they chase the ghost of a missing family member across the Moroccan desert.
Marina vanished months ago somewhere in the rave scene, and when her dad and brother stumble into another illegal gathering in the mountains, fate nudges them to follow a band of travelling ravers toward one final party, hoping she’ll be there.

What unfolds is less a straightforward search-and-rescue and more a hypnotic, heat-soaked journey through the Western Sahara that blurs the line between road movie, spiritual parable and visceral thriller.
Shot on 16mm film with a mostly non-professional cast drawn from the actual travelling rave scene, Sirât has the kind of raw, grainy texture that makes you feel the sand between your teeth.
Laxe, a Galician-French director known for his visually driven, atmospherically dense work, premiered the film in Competition at Cannes, his first time in that slot, and it landed an Oscar nomination for its all-women sound team, a historic first. The soundscape is a character in itself: massive, physical speaker towers rumbling through sandstone canyons, silence that presses down like heat.
It’s the sort of film that works on your body as much as your brain: part road trip, part rite of passage, part desert hallucination.
It’s a giveaway!
To celebrate the Australian streaming launch, we’re giving away three copies of the Sirât soundtrack on vinyl, each bundled with a full year’s MUBI subscription.
