The Melbourne Queer Film Festival is back, highlighting the best in queer cinema.

Running across ACMI, Village Cinemas Jam Factory, Cinema Nova, along with a new venue, the Victorian Pride Centre Rooftop, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival is back in full swing for its 32nd year. It’ll be showcasing some brilliant queer stories from November 10 until November 21.

This year has some fantastic festival highlights, including the opening film Private Desert (2021). Winner of Best Screenplay, Original at Cinema Brazil Grand Prize, 2022, and Best Film at Venice Film Festival, 2021, it’s the perfect film to kick off the festival.

Closing the festival is Uýra: The Rising Forest (2022), following a trans-indigenous artist embarking on a journey of self-discovery through performance art. Screening at the Victorian Pride Centre, it follows artist Uýra on their journey through the Amazon teaching indigenous youth and confronting structural racism and transphobia in Brazil.

The MQFF Awards and Shorts will take place on November 19. showcasing the brightest and the best in Australian queer filmmakers.

“The 32nd MQFF continues to bring the best of world queer culture to Melbourne and we couldn’t be happier that the Festival is returning in all its glory in 2022,” says MQFF CEO, David Harris.

“The entire MQFF program is full of diverse films which are stunning, emotional, beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious and boundary-pushing. We can’t wait to share all these films with our audiences.”
