The Living End, Billy Bragg, Marlon Williams and more announced for Melbourne charity concert

Words by Tom Parker

As part of the annual Heart of St Kilda Concert.

Every year, The Palais Theatre comes alive with the Heart of St Kilda Concert – a hugely-popular event that raises money for the Sacred Heart Mission’s Meals Program.

In 2019, the event welcomed a long list of heavyweights in the arts space, with the likes of Carl Barron, Joe Camilleri, The Teskey Brothers, Dan Sultan, Kitty Flanagan and Steph Tisdell appearing at the event.

While this year’s occasion won’t invite a physical crowd, the 2020 Heart of St Kilda Concert will boast appearances from The Living End, Missy Higgins, Billy Bragg, Effie, Rick Springfield and Marlon Williams as part of a special livestreamed event.

Jimmy Barnes’ wife, Jane, has formed a band for the event and will perform with Jimmy and local favourite Diesel. Kev Carmody will also be there alongside Jen Cloher, The Merindas and Alice Skye, with Billy Miller and Rebecca Barnard rounding out the lineup in a not-to-be-missed choir showcase.

Once again, the concert will be hosted by Brian Nankervis and comes at an incredibly important time. COVID-19 has pushed some people further into poverty with many being unable to afford daily meals or pay their bills as a result of the crisis.

It costs Sacred Heart Mission $4 to provide a meal. By purchasing a ticket, punters will be funding ten meals in the Sacred Heart Mission Dining Hall.

“The 13th annual Heart of St Kilda Concert in 2020 promises to be totally unique! I’ve been part of this wonderful celebration of music, comedy and the Mission’s important work in and around St Kilda from the beginning,” Nankervis says of the event.

“I’m excited to say that the response to the concert this year has been exceptional – aside from featuring artists that we’ve been chasing since the first concert back in 2008 – The Living End, Missy Higgins, Jimmy Barnes – it’s brilliant to see that this year’s livestream event has attracted some of the biggest names in the business.

“They’ll be recording songs and special messages in home studios all over the world! All for Sacred Heart Mission and those we support. Don’t miss out!”

The Heart of St Kilda Concert goes down on Wednesday December 2 from The Palais Theatre via livestream. Grab a ticket here.
