The James Lockwood Trio

Specialising in the Bebop idiom of the 1940’s, the music and stylings of The James Lockwood Trio reflects upright bassist and bandleader James Lockwood’s love for the music and compositions Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Barry Harris.

A proponent of the Jazz-Arco style pioneered by bass innovators Jimmie Blanton and Slam Stewart, and carried on today by American bassists Ari Roland and Jamale Davis, Lockwood employs the unique, cello-esque timbre of the bowed upright bass in pursuit of the melodic invention and sophistication which characterises the Bebop tradition.

Sporting the classic format of guitar, upright bass, and drumkit, The James Lockwood Trio delights in performing common and less-than-common compositions from the pens of Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and lesser-known figures from across the Bebop canon.

Join The James Lockwood Trio for its debut performance at Ragtime Tavern’s new upstairs room. Tickets available for $10 online or at the door. Music 8:45 – 10:45. Visiting musicians are welcome to sit in.
