Featuring over 200 new and emerging writers, the EWF exists to support, nurture and promote storytellers of the future -but injects frivolity and liveliness into the writers’ festival circuit by weaving parties, performances, poetry slams, panels and networking events into the proceedings.
Committed to providing professional development opportunities for writers through the National Writers’ Conference, industry insider events and day-long masterclasses, budding authors have the opportunity to pitch directly to publishers, learn about freelancing, take on short stories, try podcasting and explore screenwriting.
Highlights include the EWF Formal (marking 25 years of Melina Marchetta’s Looking For Alibrandi with great times at 1000 £ Bend), Tipping Points (a play about climate change created in 24 hours), Lost The Plot (watch some “true lit nerds” battle it out on stage in a night of wacky and wordy literary games), and Love Show (a show by the talented performance collective Quippings: Disability Unleashed).
“I’m beyond excited to launch this year’s program, which I hope will function as both a map and a key,” New Artistic Director Izzy Roberts-Orr says. “In celebration of all tomorrow’s voices, we’re looking to the future and asking the storytellers of the present where we can find hope in the dark.”
