Voting for The Age Music Victoria Awards 2017 is now open. The awards are also presented by Triple R and PBS FM, and feature categories such as Best Song, Best Album, Best Band, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, and Best Festival.
This year RVG and Cable Ties have both been nominated for Best Album, Best Band, Best Song and Best Emerging Act, with Cable Ties also up for Best Live Act. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are up for another three awards and Australian Music Prize winners A.B Original are up for four awards.
The awards are heading into their twelfth year, and celebrate the best of Victorias massive past year of music, artists, venues and festivals. While genre specific industry panels vote on eleven of the awards, you can have your say by voting on thirteen different categories. This makes The Age Music Victoria Awards one of Australia’s most publicly voted music awards.
“Victorian music boasts such strong diversity,” says Patrick Donovan, Music Victoria CEO. “It’s important to shine a light on the best genre acts and releases of the year. But in a sign that genre music is no longer marginalised, many of the genre acts have been nominated for the more mainstream public awards.”
The diversity of Victoria’s talent can be seen in the list of nominees, covering genres from country, soul and gospel all the way to electronic, hip hop and experimental plus an award for best aboriginal act. This years nominees include Clowns, The Bombay Royale, Birdz, Harvey Sutherland and the Teskey Brothers. The awards also recognise the venues behind live music and the spread of Victoria’s venues, including an award about not only the best venue but also the Best Regional Venue.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday November 22 at 170 Russell, amidst the Melbourne Music Week Program. Not to mention a killer after party for nominees, industry professional and the fans too.
