2022 is the time for celebration of artists and embracing the return of the Victorian music culture we all know and love,” said Music Victoria CEO Simone Schinkel.

This year has been about reclaiming live music and discovering your new favourite artist. The Music Victoria Awards are the chance for the public and industry to share the best local music they’ve discovered this year and give the recognition that those artists deserve.”

This year, the awards will cover an even bigger footprint than ever before, with the award for ‘Best Festival’ splitting out into ‘Best Metro Festival’ and ‘Best Regional Festival’, spreading even more of the festive spirit across the state and celebrating the important events happening in Victoria’s vibrant regions.

This year’s event also welcomes a brand new category for ‘Best DJ’, providing an even bigger platform for the electronic and dance music communities with the awards and highlighting a huge part of Victoria’s ever-growing music scene. These new categories join beloved publicly voted categories like Best Album, Best Song, Best Group, Best Solo Artist, Best Large Venue (Metro), Best Small Venue (Metro), Best Regional Act, Best Regional Venue/Presenter (Established) and Best Regional Venue/Presenter (Emerging).

The industry-voted categories all return for 2022, including Archie Roach Foundation Award for Emerging Talent, Arts Access Victoria Amplify Award, Best Intercultural Act, Best Producer and Best Musician, alongside categories for best works in Blues, Country, Electronic, Experimental or Avant-Garde, Folk, Heavy, Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop, reggae and dancehall, rock/punk, Soul, Funk, and R’n’B or Gospel.
