Celebrating the spirit of blues, St Kilda Blues Festival is set to take over 20 venues for a free weekend of live music.
The fourth annual St Kilda Blues Festival is back in 2023 for a full weekend of musical escape from Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5. This free, three-day festival promises a lineup chock full of incredible local grassroots bands and international appearances, with events spanning over 20 iconic local St Kilda venues, including an outdoor stage in Acland Street plaza and performers up and down Fitzroy Street.

With the lineup spouting the likes of Irish music royalty Mary Coughlan, Geoff Acheson and the Souldiggers, Fools, Julian James and the Moonshine State, Hoodoo Mayhem, Doc Halibut and many other fantastic local and international blues artists, it’s an unmissable weekend for any punter who digs live roots and blues.
Wander up and down the iconic Acland Street, peruse Fitzroy Street and pop into all the local watering holes that St Kilda has to offer throughout the weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore the streets of St Kilda and discover some undiscovered gems, all the while enjoying the best blues live music.
“Live music is in St Kilda’s DNA – so the Blues Festival is a great way of supporting local venues and musicians,” says Mayor Louise Crawford.
“We’re very grateful for the sponsorship from Fitzroy Street Traders Association and Acland Street Traders, and City of Port Phillip,” says founder Gavan Breen.
“New Orleans-style street parade gets a lot of attention, people love it. 70 gigs over the weekend across 20-plus venues with over 30 acts, and loads of street performers – this will make for a very exciting weekend in St Kilda.
“We’re a not-for-profit organisation and the main reason why we created St Kilda Blues Festival is to bring people together, St Kilda’s precinct and boost the support for local venues, bars, businesses, community and create a fun weekend in St Kilda. Music everywhere for everybody.”
The first weekend in March is looking to be a real treat: head on down southside for a weekend of great tunes as the streets of St Kilda become filled with live music. Best of all, all events across the festival are free!
