Songs From The Canyon heads back to Victoria for a six-date tour

Words by staff writer

Songs From The Canyon is returning to Victoria for a six-date run of shows in October and November.

The annual concert series brings together Husky Gawenda, Dan Kelly, Charm of Finches, Alma Zygier, Stephen Grady and Dan Challis for a night built around the songwriters who shaped LA’s Laurel Canyon neighbourhood in the 60s and 70s. Songs From The Canyon covers the catalogues of Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Mamas & The Papas, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Carole King, Bob Dylan and more, with full vocal harmonies at the centre of every arrangement.

The show has sold out four years straight since premiering at Chapel Off Chapel in 2022. The 2026 edition introduces seven new tracks to the setlist, five of which will be performed as part of Songs From The Canyon for the first time. The run covers Hamer Hall and five regional venues, wrapping up at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on 7 November.

The setlist draws from tracks that defined the era, including California Dreaming, Mr Tambourine Man, God Only Knows, Everybody’s Talking, It’s Too Late and Love the One You’re With. Each arrangement puts the six performers’ vocal interplay front and centre, channelling the collaborative energy that made Laurel Canyon a songwriting hotbed.

The concept behind Songs From The Canyon came from artist manager Rick Chazan, who first pictured the show 17 years ago. A performance of Crosby, Stills and Nash material at Brisbane’s Troubadour planted the seed for a harmony-driven production built specifically for seated theatres. Since launching at Chapel Off Chapel, the show has filled prominent concert halls across the country.

Laurel Canyon itself sits tucked into the Hollywood Hills, where a loose community of musicians congregated during the counterculture years of the 60s and 70s. Neil Young, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and their peers would drift between houses for late-night writing and jam sessions, producing some of the most enduring folk, rock and pop of the 20th century.

Pre-sale tickets are available now via the Songs From The Canyon website, with general on-sale kicking off on 12 May.
