Small Works
words by staff writer

Looking for a piece that'll fit perfectly in your microscopic CBD apartment? This is where you'll find it.

Beinart Gallery will soon debut its eighth annual group exhibition, titled Small Works 2023. The aptly-named collection will showcase the best itty-bitty, teenie-tiny works of art by 100 talented artists from Melbourne and beyond.

On the evening of September 16, they’ll be hosting a free opening reception for the exhibition with drinks on offer by Jetty Road Brewery and Malocchio.

When they say “small”, they mean it. Some of the pieces set to be showcased are mere square centimetres. But these artists know that it’s not the size that matters – it’s what you do with it.

Less canvas means you need to make every space count, which takes a delicate and dedicated touch. Gallery visitors can expect to be astonished by the hyper-realistic details, intricate brushwork and explosive creativity that can be displayed in such small pieces.

Bringing together, well-established professionals, exciting newcomers and everyone in between, the exhibition will tackle themes from the playful to the macabre.

An added benefit is that smaller pieces tend to be a bit more affordable as well. Plus, if you end up buying something, you’ll probably be able to bring it home in your purse.

The Bienart Gallery is dedicated to bringing the New Contemporary style of art to Australia. Directly and founded by Jon Beinart, it frequently brings in new exhibitions for collectors and art lovers alike.
