Two cousins, 15 years of shows between them and a catalogue deep enough to get lost in are St Kilda-bound.
Skyscraper Stan and Oskar Herbig are bringing their pared-back duo show to Memo Music Hall on 6 August.
Longtime collaborators and even longer-time cousins, Skyscraper Stan and Oskar Herbig have spent the better part of 15 years writing, recording and touring together. For this show the pair draw on three studio albums and a clutch of unreleased tracks, threading intricate lyrics and deep baritone vocals through Herbig’s winding, unpredictable fretwork.

Skyscraper Stan built his name as a songwriter and lyricist, sharpening his craft over years of near-constant touring and the characters he met on the road. Herbig, a Melbourne guitarist with his own solo releases, has long been central to that sound, his distinctive playing sitting right alongside Stan’s words rather than behind them.
Stripped back from the fuller band setup Stan usually records with, the two-person format leaves more room for the songwriting and the interplay between voice and guitar. The venue is promising tight harmonies, weaving guitar lines and plenty of loose humour between songs, along with a few numbers that are yet to see an official release.
The St Kilda date is one of several Victorian shows the cousins are working through, reshaping their catalogue for two players. Tickets are $25, or $20 plus booking fee for concession, through the venue, with a limited number held at the door for $30, or $25 concession, on the night. Doors open at 7.30pm ahead of an 8pm start.
Memo Music Hall sits on Acland Street in St Kilda, with the entrance tucked around the back of the RSL off Albert Street.
