Mount Kujo launch new live album The Berlin Tapes with a homecoming set at Revolver Upstairs.
Mount Kujo are back on home soil, marking it with the launch of new live album The Berlin Tapes.
The night works as both an album launch and a homecoming, arriving after the collective’s recent stint overseas. Recorded live during their tour of Germany, The Berlin Tapes captures the late-night sound Mount Kujo leaned into on the road. They’ll play it in full at Revolver Upstairs in Prahran on 29 August, folding psychedelic funk, jazz, latin and afro-beat into a set built on stacked polyrhythms, quick turns and full horn sections.

Support on the night comes from Circuit Breaker, a Japanese-style fusion band that takes its cues from the composers behind classic video game soundtracks. Names like Casiopea, T-Square, Koji Kondo and Yoko Shimomura sit at the centre of their sound, reworked into something that pairs close, technical playing with a lighter, playful streak. They open the bill once doors swing at 7pm.
Mount Kujo built the record across a European run that took in Fusion Festival, along with dates in Berlin, Leipzig and Spechthausen. The group landed on Revolver Upstairs, known around Prahran as Revs, because the room matched the club feel they carried home from that trip. Their lineup pulls players from right across the world.
At home, Mount Kujo have worked festival stages including Tanglewood and Port Fairy on top of longer club residencies. The 29 August show runs from 7pm through to 11pm, and Revolver Upstairs is taking table bookings for anyone who wants dinner beforehand. Tickets are handled through Humanitix, which directs its booking fees towards charity.
