The track comes ahead of his show alongside a certain Melbourne rock outfit.
London singer-songwriter MF Tomlinson has dropped his brand new track, ‘Sum Of Nothing’, and it’s one that’ll have you heading for a dancefloor.
While the single itself is upbeat, the lyrics convey a sense of uncertainty. Tomlinson dwells on what kind of future (if any) is out there waiting for us, and he takes a cautiously optimistic approach to what’s on the horizon. “What is the result of all your labour, what’s waiting for us at the end of the rainbow? What’s the sum of nothing?” sings Tomlinson.
As soon as you press play on this one, a swell of strings and horns sweep you off your feet, just before the drumbeat picks you back up and gets you grooving again. Synth bass lines and vocal harmonies make an appearance in the background, filling out the funk-infused sound.
‘Sum Of Nothing’ follows the release of Tomlinson’s debut single, ‘Nature Boy’, released earlier this year. He’s set to support Melbourne indie rockers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever at London’s Village Underground on Wednesday July 17, so swing by if you’re around those parts.
