Australia's biggest pre-loved treasure hunt begins this Saturday.
Looking to get your hands on a used pair of roller skates? A vintage velvet couch? Some vinyl records that haven’t seen the light of day since the 1970s?
If you’re the kind of person who can’t get enough of a good thrift store or vintage market, you’re going to want to make sure you’re out on the town over the next two weekends. A whopping 1035 garage sales are about to hit Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs, unearthing ungodly deals and rare gems.

- Over three million items for sale across Australia
- Check out the interactive map to find garage sales near you
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.
Think of the Garage Sale Trail as kind of a choose-your-own-adventure shopping experience. There’s an interactive map where users can check out sales in their neighbourhood or search by specific items such as books, homewares or clothing.

Sellers can register for free on the website and receive a ton of promotional help and materials including signs, price tags, posters and tips and tricks. By the way, if you’re looking to clear out your house, there’s still time to register new sales.
The Australia-wide event has been up and running for 11 years and has since gained a dedicated following. Last year’s edition featured more than 300,000 shoppers and 15,000 sales across the country and registrations are up 20% for this year’s event, so it’s shaping up to be a doozy.
As well as being a fun, cheap and communal way to shop, garage sales are also far more sustainable than buying new. They help give old items a new lease on life and prevent them from the sad fate of ending up wasting away in some landfill.
