Kong's is calling on every drag king, thing and queerdo in Melbourne to bring their most excellent selves to Brunswick Ballroom this month.

Brunswick Ballroom is throwing extra excellence into overdrive with Kong’s Mx Extra 2026, a night crowning Melbourne’s most fabulous outfit.

The beloved drag king showcase returns with its usual stacked lineup, plus an open call for punters to bring their most outrageous fits along for the ride.

Anyone through the doors could find themselves tapped on the shoulder to strut the stage and walk away crowned Mx Extra 2026, so dress like the crown might just land on your head.

Hosted by BustHerr, Jesse Dean and Randy Roy, the night promises an extra-large serving of manly debauchery, gender-norm torching and scorching drag performances from start to finish. Expect the unexpected, dress like it’s your last chance to be seen, and prepare for the possibility of being pulled into the spotlight yourself.

Kong’s Kings, affectionately known as “Kongs” among their loyal following, was established in 2013 and has spent over a decade subverting expectations around what drag performance can look like.

The showcase spans a huge range of styles, performance disciplines and expressions of gender, with kings, things and everyone in between welcome on the bill.

Mx Extra 2026 leans into that ethos, treating the audience as part of the show rather than just spectators. Whether it’s the wild costuming, the crowd participation or the chance of an impromptu crowning, the night is shaping up as one of the more unpredictable entries on Kong’s calendar.

For a scene built on breaking the mould, an event literally inviting the audience to become the show feels like a natural next step. Go on.
