Luke Morris is taking his unique brand of scientific comedy to Melbourne's libraries, where fellow introverts can enjoy enjoy a mock lecture in its natural home.

The show, An Introvert’s Guide to Extroverts, promises to blend psychology with humour, tackling everything from Carl Jung’s theories to the validity of Myers-Briggs testing, all while keeping the audience comfortably seated in the familiar confines of their local library.

“I’m uncomfortable on stage and the type of person whose favourite part of attending a party is leaving the party,” says Morris, who’s set to play the role of Matt Boring, an introverted university tutor challenging his extroverted department head’s psychological theories.

Having already won over crowds at Perth’s SciTech and Adelaide Fringe, Morris brings solid credentials to the performance. Since his comedy debut in 2017, he’s taken The Wine Science Show to England, and followed up with Love, Sweat and Science.

The new show aims to reward its quietly enthusiastic audience with “unrecognised course credit” while they witness the clash between introverted and extroverted worldviews, backed by peer-reviewed research and, importantly, a picture of dogs.

For those wondering about Morris’s comedy chops, his journey into stand-up came after decades of producing content for blogs, newsletters, and printed publications. In 2018, he made his Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut with The Wine Science Show, which later spawned a book alongside a collection of Dating Stories. He also formed Comedy Victoria, the only statewide organisation devoted to helping emerging comedians.

His commitment to the comedy scene extends beyond performing. As the founder of the Bendigo Comedy Festival in 2018, Morris has been instrumental in bringing laughs to regional Victoria. His production credits include the Movember Comedy Fundraiser, Laugh For Lifeline, and the Women of Wit series, showcasing his dedication to fostering diverse voices in comedy.

The library setting isn’t just a gimmick – it’s a deliberate choice to create a comfortable space for those who prefer their comedy without the traditional rowdy pub atmosphere. Through meeting rooms, function spaces, and lecture halls, Morris is set to transform these bastions of quiet into venues for thoughtful hilarity.

Tickets range from $10 to $29, with the show supported by Comedy Victoria. For those seeking a more cerebral comedy experience this festival season, Morris’s blend of science, psychology, and self-deprecating humour offers a refreshing alternative to traditional stand-up venues.
